On the 7th my little guy turned 6 and this past weekend we had his party. I’m not a party planner, by any means, I’m way too picky and get overly involved and it consumes so much time I get impatient with it. In fact, ANYTHING domestic and crafty would probably be better done by absolutely anyone else on the planet. Which is why we were planning to outsource the party and do one of those commercialized things… but that fell through so in a few weeks (and with massive help from the internet) I threw together a Dr. Seuss themed party.
Dmitri is allergic to red food dyes, so doing the “typical” red and white Dr. Seuss stuff was out. We kind of geared the party around the Lorax, his favorite book, but mostly I focused mostly on bright whimsical colors and foods and it came together pretty well.

I poured my heart into the details, which the adults in attendance seemed to appreciate at least.

Cocktail Cups & Picks from Party City

An INCREDIBLE Lorax cake by my fantastic friend Erin.

That thing that’s face down on the table is Dmitri’s Lorax stuffed animal. He was supposed to be holding the balloons(which were supposed to be Truffula trees) but I didn’t get a chance to take a photo of him before the kids came running through and he ended up face first. Ah well, we were close to perfect.

There was also Moose Juice & Goose Juice(in pitchers I hand painted myself), along with Hummus and Guacamole(Gluppity-Glupp and Shloppity-Shlop) and chips of course, a Dr. Seuss reading area, Pin the Hat on the Cat, Musicial Sneetch Stars, Guess How Many Dish in the Dish, and Seussian Puppet making. Trying to be a photographer while also running the party as the planner and the mother, there just wasn’t time to take photos of it all, but we had a great time. Overall, it was extremely chaotic with 13 kids running around, but also a lot of fun and I’m glad we did it because it probably won’t happen again!
